The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The budgeted salary range for this position is $109,366 - $122,779. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location


The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

As part of the Executive Director’s Office, the team is comprised of the Marketing and Communications Team, the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Team, and Wellness Team. This position reports to the Culture and Wellbeing Officer. The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Senior Advisor leads the agency’s Equity Action Plan as a consultant and guide. With an expertise in EDI, this position supports all levels of DHS staff to maximize positive organizational culture. The position facilitates workshops, builds programs, reviews policies and practices with an EDI lens, and supports strategic planning and implementation of EDI into DHS business operations.


The Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Senior Advisor is a key leader at DHS that helps build dignity and empathy for all -- ensuring that social identities don’t limit anyone’s opportunities. This role will normalize equity conversations through training to leadership and staff; provide technical assistance to leadership; implement programmatic activities; cultivate equity champions; and conduct data reviews. EDI initiatives will involve collaborating with other City departments and community resources to institute organizational practices that embed an equity lens in all of our work.


Additionally, the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Senior Advisor will:


  • Support the alignment and integration of EDI work with the DHS Mission, Vision, Strategic Framework, and within each Division throughout the agency
  • Review DHS policies and practices, and recommend changes that will enhance positive, respectful, and equitable environments for our workforce and the people we serve
  • In partnership with division leadership, develop strategies to integrate and embed EDI principles
  • Develop short- and long-term vision, strategy and execution for the growth and evolution of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and EDI Ambassadors, including but not limited to: alignment, governance, charters or roadmaps, event support, budget management, communication, and membership
  • Design and deliver organizational training and development specific to EDI, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Social Equity and Innovation, Human Resources, and training teams throughout DHS
  • Help develop infrastructure for customer/ client feedback loops. Identify and create strategic relationships with community organizations and a diverse representation of community leaders to ensure DHS is including customer voices

What You’ll Bring


Our successful candidate will be someone who is passionate about public service, has a strong sense of integrity and sound judgment, and demonstrates an ability to collaborate across various internal and external teams and stakeholders. You will be flexible with an innate ability to manage high-pressure situations. In addition, you have exceptionally high emotional intelligence and interpersonal social skills that include but are not limited to self-awareness, self-regulation, conflict resolution, social skills, and empathy— the ability to maintain respectful environments during sensitive conversations and situations. You have leadership ability to guide and actively participate in social equity work, along with the dedication and fortitude to push and drive change in these areas within a Human Services environment. You will also have a proven track record leading EDI initiatives within a large public sector organization.


Our ideal candidate will have:


  • Possess 5 years of professional experience leading in the equity, diversity, and inclusion space. This can include work on anti-oppression initiatives, community mobilization initiatives, creating and conducting related trainings
  • Have three (3) years of demonstrated success in the administration of community, government, educational or social justice programs
  • At least (3) years of public speaking or group facilitation experience
  • Strong understanding of system issues - seeks to understand the dynamics of power and oppression and how systems have impact on a personal level. Experience facilitating conversations with individuals and groups on power dynamics and mechanisms of structural inequity and authentic inclusion
  • Experience implementing large-scale change management processes and developing, delivering, and implementing solutions within strategic planning cycles
  • Ability to drive projects to completion with a commitment to consistently delivering excellent work
  • Experience leading and collaborating with diverse stakeholders, community groups, and underserved or marginalized communities
  • Skills with leading, building teams and coaching at a management level
  • Diplomacy, patience and ability to maintain respectful environments during sensitive conversations and situations
  • Demonstrated ability to accomplish goals through collaborating with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated experienced leading teams, projects, or initiatives that have an agency or community-wide impact

Required Minimum Qualifications


  • Education Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in a related field based on a specific position(s)
  • Experience Requirement: Five (5) years’ experience performing full performance professional level duties within a specialized, functional area. (This does not include clerical experience)
