Job Description

A VDDV (CAE) Analysis Engineer in the Battery - Thermal 3D CFD team performs battery module and pack system level thermal/CFD analysis for high voltage battery module, pack and vehicle integration. Work closely with battery cell electrochemical CAE team to integrate battery cell thermal behavior with battery system analysis. Provide results and technical consultation to battery and vehicle thermal management engineers. Deliver design solutions which are robust and reliable utilizing optimization and statistical methods. Develop battery concepts for early vehicle synthesis and assess/improve production designs. Provide requirements for improvements to advanced simulation and validation techniques!

Primary Responsibilities:

Perform battery module and pack-level CFD thermal analysis for early design and verification of battery concepts, designs and thermal management systems.

Develop and coordinate battery CFD verification and validation activities.

Conduct cell-level thermal analysis and work closely with cell CAE team to integrate electrochemical simulation with battery system transient thermal behavior and support the estimation of cell life under different driving cycle and ambient conditions.

Effectively communicate findings to internal/external customers using appropriate media.

Meet or exceed deadlines for structured product development timelines, quality and cost.

Collaborate with broader engineering team for structured design integration, new proposals, problem solving, and system optimization.

Provide requirements for improvements to advanced simulation activities to include CFD, Thermal, Structural and multi-physics. Participate in benchmarking activities.

Additional Job Description

Required Skills and Experience:

2+ years of experience with CFD analysis

Direct experience applying 1D or 3D CFD tools to propulsion-related systems

Experience with the latest CFD visualization techniques

Experience in using UG NX

High level of oral and written communication skills

Knowledge in Engineering and Computational and Fluid Dynamics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, and Numerical Methods

Highly proficient with Microsoft Office products

High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others

High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult

Preferred Skills and Experience:

5+ years of experience with CFD analysis

Proficient with STAR-CCM+ CFD software

Experience with CFD optimization tools

Familiarity or practical experience with the principles of vehicle propulsion system design, operation, or testing

Working knowledge of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles, Electrochemistry and Li-Ion batteries and cell design

Experience with programming in Java, Python or equivalent languages

Linux experience

Education and Training:

BS in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Aerospace Engineering required

MS in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Aerospace Engineering with coursework in heat transfer and fluid mechanics preferred
