Durham University is a globally outstanding centre of teaching and research excellence, a collegiate community of exceptional and committed people, in a unique and historic setting. It is one of the world’s top universities and provides a distinctive environment for its 19,000 students and 4,300 staff. Our staff, students, colleges, departments and estate all combine to make this a wonderful place to study, work and to live.

Durham is one of the most distinctive universities and continues to build upon its achievements with passion and drive. As well as producing world-leading and world-changing research across all Faculties, the educational offer is challenging, enabling, research-led and transformative. Durham’s wider student experience is among the best in the UK and its teaching has been recognised with a Gold TEF Award.

With the appointment of a new Vice-Chancellor and Warden, Professor Karen O’Brien, the University has re-affirmed its commitment to global excellence and fostering a diverse, inclusive and respectful environment in which our University community can thrive. We are looking to appoint an inspiring Pro-Vice-Chancellor for EDI, who shares our values and sense of purpose and who will be at the heart of leading, evolving and driving forward our EDI agenda, ensuring that EDI is effectively enshrined in all that we do.

Reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and a member of the University Executive Board, we are seeking an exceptional individual, with proven leadership experience, vision and a record of driving and delivering impactful cultural change. The successful candidate will bring high levels of emotional intelligence, a collaborative approach, and deep insight into the emerging national and international trends, opportunities and challenges relating to the equality and diversity landscape.

We are committed to being a fully inclusive and diverse community. We will actively seek and encourage applications for this role from the broadest range of society, including all underrepresented groups with particular emphasis on BAME candidates, who are under-represented in the University.
