About DC Scholars:
DC Scholars Public Charter School was founded in 2012 and opened with grades PS-3. Today, DC Scholars Public Charter School serves approximately 500 students in Preschool - 8th grade. We emphasize academic achievement and firmly believe that we must support students’ emotional, social, and physical growth to improve student learning. With a focus on these areas, we earned Tier 1 status in 2016 as outlined by the DC Public Charter School Board’s Performance Management Framework. DC Scholars Public Charter School is seeking outstanding Special Education Teachers who are passionate about teaching elementary & middle school students and pushing them to achieve their highest academic and personal potential. These teachers cultivate a strong culture of achievement and lead classroom communities where students are engaged and self-motivated. This position will be based at DC Scholars Public Charter School.
Departmentalized Elementary Math and ELA
K-8 Special Education (Resource)
Plan towards and provide excellent instruction for scholars
Provide push-in and pull-out services for general education teachers
Provide small group instruction including developing materials, lessons, homework assignments based on state standards and school-wide goals for achievement
Collaborate with general instruction teachers to meet the needs of all learners and to design effective instructional and behavioral plans
Support students who have behavioral, academic or social disabilities
Create, modify and carry out Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students included within a caseload
Provide appropriate modifications and accommodations in accordance with each student’s IEP
Monitor progress of each student’s IEP goals on a regular basis
Receive feedback and coaching from school leaders
Reward positive student behavior and hold students accountable using school-wide systems
Background and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required
2+ years of teaching experience, preferably in an urban public or charter school
Teaching licensure/certification, or willingness to obtain, preferred
Demonstrated content knowledge
Positive attitude and strong work ethic
Belief in the power of parent/family relationships
Deep belief and commitment to breaking the barriers of achievement for scholars in Southeast D.C.
