DIRECTOR, DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION (DEI), Human Resources (HR), to collaborate on providing vision, leadership, and guidance for developing and implementing programs, strategies, and practices to advance and support MIT’s long-standing commitment to workplace diversity, affirmative action, and equal opportunity for staff members. Will serve as a thought leader in shaping and implementing MIT’s vision of a respectful, inclusive community that embraces diversity; lead the design and implementation of HR’s local strategic plan; collaborate with HR leadership on facilitating the design of HR business owner practices and systems to support goals and targets specific to composition, belonging, and achievement; and provide data analysis and progress reporting.

REQUIRED: bachelor’s degree; ten years’ progressively responsible experience; demonstrated record of accomplishment in DEI/related field; extensive knowledge of AA/EEO, Title IX, and civil rights laws/regulations; experience analyzing data/surveys, producing narrative and data reports/presentations, and developing tools to measure progress; in-depth knowledge of DEI and social justice principles, practices, and theories; knowledge of HR policies/practices; excellent supervisory, project/program management, interpersonal, listening, oral and written communication, consultation, presentation, meeting design, and facilitation skills; and understanding of organizational behavior and intervention theory and practice. Must be able to be visionary and strategic in thinking and tactical in executing strategies; work collaboratively in order to build trust and influence direction/decisions in a decentralized academic environment with multiple constituency groups and levels of leadership; demonstrate organizational savvy, discretion, judgment, and diplomacy; and work effectively in a complex, multicultural, and networked environment. PREFERRED: master’s degree in leadership, D&I, OD, HR, or related field; experience working in and understanding of university environments and the MIT culture; and D&I-related certification.
