As Ontario begins preparations for the upcoming June election, Elections Canada will require several contract support staff to fill various roles as a new or returning Elections Officer. We are currently seeking a Public Engagement Officer to support the Sioux Lookout area, beginning late March and finishing mid-June.

Public Engagement Officer: $19.00/hr + expenses

The Public Engagement Officer works in select electoral districts to develop relationships with diverse community stakeholders and reduce barriers to voting; these groups include, but are not limited to indigenous communities, seniors, youth/students, new citizens, people with disabilities, underserved communities and voters experiencing homelessness.

What you'll be doing:
* Identify and build relationships with diverse community stakeholders
* Learn election information provided by Elections Ontario
* Liaise with Elections Ontario HQ to schedule and fulfill presentation requests
* Deliver presentations and host information sessions and events with community organizations serving voters facing barriers
* Provide regular updates to the Returning Officer and Elections Ontario HQ
* Increase awareness about translation, interpretation and accessibility services available to voters.
* Coordinate activities as required with other public engagement officers located in neighbouring electoral districts

What you bring to the role:
* Experience/education/training in any form of marketing/public relations/community engagement capacity
* Sensitive to the needs of people with disabilities and/or low literacy
* Excellent interpersonal communication (oral and written)
* Organizational, planning and scheduling skills
* Flexibility to work a combination of part time to full time hours form Mid-March to Mid-June
* Flexible for days, evenings and weekends (schedule provided)
* Own transportation
* Access to a desktop/laptop and reliable internet connection
* Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
